Our continued growth as a firm, and meeting the distinctive needs of our clients in Minnesota and Wisconsin, is a priority to Lommen Abdo. We are pleased to introduce attorney Jon Steckler, who recently joined the firm. Jon’s practice is focused on construction, commercial and business law and related litigation. Serving as general corporate counsel for companies in various industries, Jon regularly advises clients on a broad range of issues facing businesses on a day-to-day basis.
Jon lives in Golden Valley with his wife, their daughter, and a long-haired chihuahua named Jeffery.
We recently had the opportunity to sit down with Jon and ask him more about his practice and some of his recent successes.
Why do you do what you do as a lawyer?
I am a problem solver. I help clients identify and avoid problems and to deal with them when they can’t be avoided.
What is your client philosophy?
I tell my clients what they need to hear, versus what they want to hear. The client’s needs are best served by fully understanding the landscape – good, bad, or otherwise – in order to have reasonable expectations and in order to effectively work toward the best solution or outcome.
Tell us about a few of your biggest successes as a lawyer.
I secured a jury verdict and damages award of over $1 million in a major construction defect case and successfully defended the verdict at the Minnesota Court of Appeals. I also secured a large award in favor of a construction subcontractor in a binding arbitration – including attorneys’ fees – against a general contractor in a breach of contract / mechanic’s lien / non-payment case. I recently represented one of my earliest clients in a stock sale. I had originally helped incorporate them as a newly-minted attorney. It was fun and exciting to have represented the owners of the company through the years and in the various stages from inception to sale.
What is a little-known fact about you?
I compete in triathlons and have completed seven full-distance Ironman races. I also have a goal to run with the bulls in Pamplona someday.
President Marc Johannsen had this to say about bringing Jon on board, “Jon’s considerable experience in commercial and business law is an excellent fit at Lommen Abdo. Jon brings a unique perspective to the firm, as well as a track record of success. We are lucky to have him as part of our team.”
