Lommen Abdo is pleased to welcome Christopher Luehr, an estate planning attorney who helps individuals, families, and business owners protect their assets and navigate complex legal decisions. With a background in estate planning, probate, and business law, Christopher takes a client-focused approach to guide people through the legal process with clarity and peace of mind.
Describe major career and life decisions that led you to your current position. How have these experiences shaped the way you engage with clients?
My journey to estate planning wasn’t a straight path. After college, I spent several years teaching in China, then pursued a Master’s in Literature at Columbia University before attending law school at the University of Minnesota. When I graduated, I worked in business law and estate planning, but after stepping away from legal practice for a time, I wasn’t sure if I would return. My wife encouraged me to give law another shot, and I’m so glad I did—it’s been a fulfilling way to help people plan for the future and protect their loved ones.
My faith and family have played a huge role in shaping my approach to law. I see estate planning as a service-based practice, not about selling the most complex or expensive plan, but about helping clients create a plan that truly fits their needs.
What motivates you as a lawyer?
I am motivated by helping people navigate difficult legal decisions with confidence and peace of mind. Many clients come to me stressed about the unknown, whether it’s estate planning, probate, or a business matter. I take pride in breaking down complex legal issues so my clients feel empowered and in control of their future.
Tell us about a few of your biggest successes as a lawyer.
Some of my most rewarding successes aren’t big courtroom victories—they’re the small moments when a client breathes a sigh of relief after finalizing an estate plan or resolving a dispute.
I once worked with a business owner who had signed a contract without fully understanding the terms—unfortunately, it was heavily skewed against him. By stepping in, renegotiating the terms, and guiding him toward a better contract, I helped him avoid a bad deal and set his business up for success.
In another case, I helped a client resolve a difficult probate matter where a family member’s estate was being contested by an ex-spouse. The process took over a year of legal battles, but in the end, we were able to protect the client’s inheritance and move forward.
What unique perspectives do you bring to your practice?
As a foster and adoptive parent, I have a broad view of what “family” means. Estate planning isn’t just about assets—it’s about protecting the people we love, and that looks different for everyone. Whether it’s blended families, second marriages, or clients without children, I bring a deep understanding of diverse family structures and help clients create plans that reflect their values and relationships.
What is your client philosophy?
I tell my clients, “My job is to give you peace of mind.” Estate planning and business law can feel overwhelming, but my role is to partner with clients, listen to their goals, and guide them toward the best solutions. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach—I work to ensure that every plan is customized to the client’s needs and future goals.
What are you most proud of?
Personally, I am most proud of my faith and my role as a father. My family is my foundation, and I strive to maintain strong boundaries between work and home life so I can be present for my wife and kids.
What is a little-known fact about you?
I once had a role in a Chinese soap opera! While teaching in China, I was cast as Max, an American businessman, and had to deliver lines in Mandarin—though I never actually saw the final show.
