This year, Jamie Johnson celebrates a remarkable milestone—35 years with Lommen Abdo. Since joining the firm in 1990, Jamie has built a career rooted in dedication, adaptability, and community involvement. Over the years, he has navigated the evolving legal landscape while remaining a trusted advocate for his clients. As we honor his achievements, Jamie shares his journey, the lessons he’s learned, and what has kept him at Lommen Abdo for more than three decades.
A Career That Started With the Right Timing
Jamie’s journey to Lommen Abdo began in early 1990, when he was working as a criminal prosecutor in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. At the time, he and his fiancée—now his wife—were planning their future together. Living in Baldwin, Wisconsin, would have meant long daily commutes for both of them, so when he heard of an opening at Lommen Abdo’s Hudson office, he pursued the opportunity. He landed the job before the firm had even published the position—a fortunate turn of events that would shape the rest of his career.
Evolving Roles and Expanding Practice Areas
Jamie’s role at Lommen Abdo has evolved significantly over the years. In his early days as an associate, he focused primarily on insurance defense, along with some criminal and traffic defense. After becoming a partner in 1997, his practice expanded to include construction and corporate litigation. Over the last decade, Jamie has transitioned into mediation, leveraging his experience to help litigators resolve disputes efficiently and effectively.
A Changing Legal Landscape
Reflecting on how the legal profession has changed over the years, Jamie highlights technology’s impact on efficiency and communication. The shift from paper-based processes to digital file management, the rise of email over traditional mail, and the increased use of video conferencing tools like Zoom and Teams have transformed how attorneys work and connect with clients. While these advancements have sped up legal proceedings and improved efficiency, Jamie emphasizes that the heart of the profession remains the same—helping people navigate their legal challenges.
Memorable Moments and Meaningful Interactions
Looking back over 35 years, Jamie’s most memorable moments come from the people he has worked with—both clients and colleagues. Whether guiding clients through difficult legal matters, mentoring younger attorneys, or collaborating with his peers, Jamie values the relationships he has built throughout his career. The legal field is full of complexities, but for Jamie, it has always been about helping people and making a meaningful impact.
Pride in Community Involvement
Of all his accomplishments, Jamie is most proud of receiving the Hudson Chamber of Commerce’s Marie Blakeman Award, a lifetime achievement award for community service. Over the years, Lommen Abdo has supported his deep involvement in the Hudson community, from his 12 years on the Hudson School Board to his ongoing work with Rotary and other civic organizations. His dedication to serving others extends beyond the courtroom, and he remains passionate about giving back to the community that has given him so much.
Lessons Learned and Advice for Young Attorneys
When asked about the most valuable lesson he’s learned in his career, Jamie’s response is simple yet profound: “People and time are more important than money.” His advice to young attorneys echoes that sentiment—build a reputation for honesty and integrity, and protect it every day.
For those just starting their legal careers, Jamie emphasizes the importance of focusing on the present rather than worrying about the future. “Your future will take care of itself if you focus on the present. Enjoy and appreciate the moments and the relationships.”
Looking Ahead
Even after 35 years, Jamie still finds fulfillment in his work—especially in being able to live and practice law in Hudson while helping clients resolve their legal issues. As for celebrating this milestone, he’s keeping it simple: a dinner with his wife and friends, followed by a well-earned week of relaxation in Florida.
Lommen Abdo President Marc Johannsen recognizes Jamie’s outstanding contributions to the firm:
“Jamie has been an invaluable part of Lommen Abdo for 35 years, not only as a skilled attorney but as a leader and mentor. His commitment to his clients, his colleagues, and his community sets an example for all of us. We are proud to celebrate this milestone with him and look forward to many more years of his continued success.”
Congratulations, Jamie, on 35 years of dedication, service, and success!
