Collecting Socks for People Incorporated
Lommen Abdo hosted Socktober, a fundraising drive collecting socks in support of People Incorporated during the last part of October. People Incorporated is a non-profit organization that provides mental health care services to people in the Twin Cities metro area. People Incorporated’s Street Outreach team integrates mental health, substance use, and support services to meet the needs of individuals experiencing unsheltered homelessness, and gives out thousands of basic survival items every year. We are proud to have partnered with them for this important cause.
Team Solid vs. Team Pattern
During the fundraising drive, Lommen Abdo’s Hudson and Minneapolis offices split up into two teams: Team Solid and Team Pattern. Despite the team names, solid socks and patterned socks were welcomed in both teams’ collections. The premise was simple: the team with the most donated socks at the end of Socktober would be tapped as the winning team.
A friendly competition developed, and the race was on! Each day the donation boxes piled higher and higher, until several boxes filled the offices. In two weeks, Lommen Abdo collected 404 pairs of new socks to donate to People Incorporated. The drive was a massive success, and the competition came to a photo finish.
Who Won?
Well, if you can believe it, it was a tie! Remarkably, both teams donated 202 pairs of socks. (We even counted twice as we couldn’t believe the irony!)
More Fundraising to Come
We are thrilled to donate the over 400 pairs of socks we collected to People Incorporated, who will distribute them to those in need. As the cold weather season approaches, we hope these socks help provide some warmth and comfort to everyone they reach. Upon hearing about our successful drive, a People Incorporated representative said, “I can’t tell you how grateful our homeless outreach team and data center will be and how far these things go in restoring dignity to our clients.”
Lommen Abdo is proud to continue to support important community organizations like People Incorporated, and we look forward to the next friendly competition to not only raise donations but also awareness of the important work these organizations do for our community every day.
