We’re proud to share that Christopher Scott has once again been recognized by the National Black Lawyers Association’s Top 40 Under 40 for Minnesota. Christopher’s thoughtful approach to advocacy and commitment to making a difference for his clients and community continue to set him apart. We caught up with him to reflect on this honor and his journey as a lawyer.
What does it mean to you to be named to the Top 40 Under 40 again this year?
It’s definitely an honor. Being recognized for the work I do in civil rights, insurance defense, municipal law, and real estate law feels meaningful—especially here in Minnesota, where there aren’t many Black attorneys. It’s a reminder that the effort we’re putting in matters, and it motivates me to keep pushing forward.
What inspired you to pursue a career in law?
A big part of it was personal experiences growing up—seeing how people of color were treated by law enforcement and within the legal system. As I went through law school and started my career, it became even clearer to me how important it is for people to have advocates who understand their experiences. I wanted to be someone clients could lean on and trust.
What areas do you focus on today, and what do you find rewarding about your work?
Right now, I focus mainly on insurance defense, municipal law, real estate, and some personal injury work. Civil rights is still something I care deeply about and try to keep involved in my practice when I can. For me, the most rewarding part is helping people navigate a system that can feel overwhelming—and knowing I’m making a real difference for them.
What challenges or growth moments have shaped your path?
One early experience that stands out was arguing subsidized housing cases at the Court of Appeals and Supreme Court. It was both rewarding and eye-opening. You go into this profession wanting to change the world, and then you realize how complicated and slow change can be. But it’s worth it. You have to stay committed because if you stop fighting, people lose out.
What advice would you give to young attorneys of color?
Stay passionate. The challenges are real, but so is the impact you can make. Keep fighting for the people who need someone in their corner.
How do you recharge outside of work?
Spending time with family and friends, traveling, going to concerts—those things really help me keep perspective. I didn’t come from a family full of lawyers, so taking a step back and seeing things through the eyes of people outside the legal world helps me stay grounded and inspired.
Congratulations, Christopher, on this well-deserved recognition! Your leadership and commitment to advocacy continue to inspire all of us at Lommen Abdo.
