Lommen Abdo is continually striving to be the most dedicated, flexible and client-focused firm in Minnesota and Wisconsin. We have been growing to continue to meet the unique needs of our clients and are excited to welcome attorney Kelly Sofio to our team. Kelly has over 20 years of experience in her defense practice and is an American Arbitration Association certified no-fault arbitrator. Her client service philosophy – “to be responsive and passionate about my work” – perfectly describes the kind of lawyers you’ll find at Lommen Abdo.

We recently sat down to learn more about Kelly and her practice, and we’re excited to share her answers with you.

What unique perspective do you bring to your practice?

Fraud bothers me. The first case I had in 1999 involved someone who was lying about injuries sustained in a very minor accident. It made me mad. In 22 years, that passion has not changed, or even lessened. I am passionate about defending claims that have no reasonable basis.

Tell us why you went to law school.

In my last year of college, a landlord kept my security deposit on an apartment. It was only $150 but felt like all the money in the world to me – and her basis for doing so was a lie. I took her to small claims court and got double the deposit back. It was the reason I decided to go to law school.

What are a couple of your biggest successes as a lawyer?

I took a no-fault issue that I had been arguing for eight years at the AAA level and district court level to the Supreme Court and won. My other success is ongoing: I continue to fight for good results on no-fault matters in a venue that is considered plaintiff-friendly and where few defense lawyers have success.

How has your practice evolved?

I started out as a family lawyer but fell into insurance defense when another partner was too busy. I started in no-fault, and still do that primarily. I guess it has evolved into a very good practice, as I feel like I am a well-known fighter in this arena that other lawyers incorrectly discount.

What are you most proud of?

The fact that I was able to have three children, and continue to be a mom, while building a really solid insurance defense practice and reputation as a lawyer.

What is a little-known fact about you?

I love Barbies and Star Wars.

Lommen Abdo President Marc Johannsen had this to say about bringing Kelly on board, “We are pleased that Kelly has joined Lommen Abdo. Her skills and background as a lawyer are a great fit with our practice. We welcome Kelly to the firm.”
